Reach for the stars

How swimmers level up

1

Earn your stars

Every skill is worth up to three stars. The more it clicks, the more stars your swimmer collects.

2

Pass the skill

Three stars means that skill is officially passed. On to the next one!

3

Move up a level

Pass every skill in a level and it’s time to level up. Instructors make the call — and you’ll see it all in the daily reports.

Be ready for day one

What to bring & remember

A little prep makes the first lesson smooth. Here’s everything to pack and keep in mind.

Our pool isn’t heated. A swim shirt or rash guard (plus a warm towel or cover-up for after) keeps your swimmer comfortable and warm in the water.

Pack these

  • Comfortable goggles that fit your child well.No worries if you forget — we keep backup goggles on hand.
  • A full-coverage swimsuit — plus a swim shirt or rash guard (especially for boys) to stay warm in our unheated pool.
  • A towel and warm, dry clothes for after the lesson.
  • A water bottle and sunscreen — swimming is thirsty work and we don't want your kids to burn!
  • Tip: label goggles and towels with your child’s name.

Good to remember

  • Arrive 5 minutes early, already in swimwear and ready to get in. Classes start right on time.
  • A parent or guardian stays on the pool deck the whole lesson — please don’t leave the facility.
  • Tell your instructor about your child — if they’re shy with new people, nervous in the water, or anything else that helps us make lessons a success.
  • Need to miss? Let us know at least 4 hours ahead (call or email) to stay eligible for a make-up.
  • Cheer from the viewing area and let the instructor do the coaching — it helps kids focus.
Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Still wondering about something? Here are the questions we hear most.

What should my child wear and bring?

A full-coverage swimsuit with a swim shirt or rash guard (our pool isn’t heated), comfortable goggles, a towel, and warm dry clothes for after. We keep backup goggles on hand just in case.

How old does my child need to be?

We start as young as 6 months in our Parent-Taught class, where an adult is in the water too. Children must be 3 to begin Preschool. For ages 3 and up, placement is by skill — take the placement check above to find the right starting level.

How do you decide my child’s level?

Use our placement check for a great starting guess, then your instructor confirms it on the first day and may move your child up or down. Swimmers earn up to three stars per skill; three stars passes the skill, and passing them all moves them up a level. You’ll get a progress report every day.

My child is nervous in the water or shy with new people — what can I do?

That’s completely normal! Just tell your instructor before the first lesson so we can help your child feel comfortable. In Preschool, a parent may get in the water if their little one is feeling unsure.

What if we have to miss a lesson?

Let us know at least 4 hours before class (call or email) to stay eligible for a make-up. Make-ups happen on that session’s Saturday, first come first served, with up to 2 per swimmer each session. See “the fine print” below for the full details.

What happens if the weather is bad?

For safety we cancel for lightning, thunder, high winds, cold, or severe weather. We’ll email and text at least an hour ahead when we can, and washed-out lessons move to Saturday. If 3 or more are cancelled, you can choose make-ups or a prorated credit.

Do I need to stay, and can I watch?

Yes — a parent or guardian stays on the pool deck for the whole lesson and can’t leave the facility. You’re welcome to watch from the viewing area; just leave the coaching to the instructor so kids can focus.

Is there a member discount? Do you offer private lessons?

Members pay $139 per group session instead of $179 (group lessons only). We also offer private one-on-one lessons at $55 per 30 minutes, or in money-saving packages — booked after group lessons each day. Member pricing doesn’t apply to privates.

What if my child misses several lessons?

Consistent attendance really helps. A swimmer who misses 4 or more lessons in a session (half or more) may need to repeat the level before advancing, at the instructor’s discretion.

Missed a lesson? Here’s the make-up plan
  • Let us know at least 4 hours before class (call or email) to keep your make-up eligibility. Late notice or no-shows can’t be made up.
  • Make-ups happen on that session’s Saturday — first come, first served, based on space in the right level.
  • Up to 2 make-ups per swimmer each session, used within that same session.
  • A make-up may be with a different instructor than usual — that’s totally fine.
  • Missing 4 or more lessons in a session may mean repeating the level, at the instructor’s discretion.
Weather & safety

Because lessons are outdoors, we’ll cancel for safety when there’s:

  • Lightning within 10 miles, or thunder heard at the pool
  • Sustained winds over 30 mph, or air below 65°F at lesson time
  • Hail, a severe-weather warning, or a tornado watch or warning

Lightning rule: everyone’s out of the water right away, and the pool stays closed for at least 30 minutes after the last thunder or lightning.

We’ll email and text at least an hour ahead when we can. Weather days move to Saturday — and if 3 or more lessons are washed out, you can choose make-ups or a prorated credit toward the next session.

On the pool deck
  • Arrive 5 minutes early, in swimwear and ready to hop in. Classes start right on time.
  • A parent or guardian stays on the pool deck for the whole lesson — please don’t leave the facility.
  • Preschool grown-ups may get in the water if their little one is feeling nervous. Other levels watch from the deck.
  • Cheer from the viewing area and let the instructors do the coaching — it helps kids focus.
  • Swimmers listen up, treat everyone with respect, and keep the deck a no-running zone.
